Seminar on Internet Services at the IDEA Center in Volgograd |
|
On June 18 and 25, 2009, the IDEA Center of M. Gorky regional academic library in Volgograd held seminars “Internet Services for Job Search and Professional Development” for underserved population groups.
On June 18 the seminar participants learned about Internet services, e-mail and other paid and free online resources for job search, education and interaction. They were introduced to job search features on such popular Russian web resources as “Odnoklassniki” (Classmate Search) “V Kontakte” (the Russian counterpart of Facebook) and “Professionals,” browsing through the special section “Jobs and Vacancies” on “Odnoklassniki,” looking at its subsections “Jobs in Web Marketing,” “Vacancies” and “Résumés,” as well as rules of registration and participation in various groups.
The seminar participants were also introduced to Professionals.Ru and its groups and online conferences “Searching for Partners /Jobs/ Employees,” “Freelance Work and Other Independent Projects,” “E-Commerce.” “V Kontakte” also offers such groups as “Job Search” and “Job Search for Students and Graduates.” Since all these social online resources require registration, the seminar participants first created and registered their personal e-mail accounts.
During the second seminar on June 25, the trainees learned to send and receive e-mail messages, attach files, create and delete files and folders, copy and move messages to and from different folders, etc. They were also introduced to ICQ, a powerful instant message service used by many managers, and Skype and its diverse interaction opportunities.
