On October 13-14, 2009 Water to Market (WtM) Activity of the Millennium Challenge Account-Armenia (MCA-Armenia www.mca.am) Program held a unique exhibition that highlighted the three year accomplishments of the project. The programmatic activities were presented through displays featuring modern technologies and practices related to irrigation, production and post-harvest management. The exhibition also focused on the successes achieved in identification of market opportunities and support to beneficiary farmers take in utilizing the potential of the new opportunities.
In their capacity of the facilitator for the '07 CC Water User Associations (WUA) Program, designed and implemented in line with the MCA project goals, the CC Armenia staff was also invited to the Expo. Within the abovementioned program ten water users from Armenia had visited California to explore the techniques and effective practices of the US water management system. The program aimed at enhancing the WUAs' organizational capacity to support them in initiating and administering strategies towards their self-sustainability. Mr. Homeros Safaryan, President of the Vardenis WUA and a Community Connections (CC) alumnus, was at the Expo coordinating the display of modern technologies used for irrigation. The CC staff visited different booths, and met farmers who try to link improved irrigation to profitable agribusiness opportunities.
The event served as a good opportunity for the CC staff to reconnect with the WUA CC alumni, on practice assess the progress of their action plans and other extended activities.
