ACETT Civics Clubs Discuss Youth Problems in Samtskhe-Javakheti | acett | 1 Jul 2011


On June 22 the students of ACETT (Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program) partner schools gathered in Akhaltsikhe to participate in a theatre performance and discussions, dedicated to youth problems. Performance was based on the scenario, developed by students, which helped to clearly demonstrate the most common problems, Georgian youth face nowadays (violence among youth, law violations, gambling).

Civics Clubs, established in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT) held annual presentations of the results, accomplished throughout the year. Presentations were held in Kutaisi on June 24, in Batumi on June 28 and in Tbilisi on June 29.

Access Program Summer School, which took place simultaneously in all four regions of Rustavi, Akhaltsikhe, Gori and Ozurgeti on June 20-24 highlighted the end of school semester. All four locations of program implementation used a unified agenda, which Access Program Coordinator developed especially for Access Program Summer School (see Attachment I / Access Program Summer School Agenda). Five day (30 hour) program included a lot of interesting information on American history, culture, traditions, sports, geography and etc.

On June 9 the students of ACETT (Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program) partner schools gathered on a central square in Zugdidi to promote healthy lifestyle among youth. The large event included bicycle parade and sports competition among students from different schools, involved in the ACETT program.

Access Program in Rustavi Discuss 20th Century American Classical Music | access ge | 10 Jun 2011


On June 10, the American Corner in Rustavi hosted a presentation delivered by an English Language teacher, Philip Tappan, for Access Program students. Mr. Tappen, who visited Georgia through the Georgian government-sponsored project "Teach and Learn with Georgia”, introduced the topic of 20th Century American Classical Music to a group of 25 Access Program students, teachers and Peace Corps Volunteers in Rustavi. The audience listened to music by famous American composers: George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, and Aaron Copland and discussed the influence new popular music exerts on the world of music. Access students shared the ideas on their favorite composers and singers and agreed that American and Georgian youth like pretty much the same kind of music.

The 8th ZANG Community Justice Center in the South of Armenia | zang | 31 May 2011


On May 24, 2011 one more Community Justice Center opened in Armenia as a result of successful partnership between PH International and World Vision (WV). The new ZANG CJC was established in Kapan city, under the auspices of the local Community Child Development Center where the Restorative board, trained by PH International, will provide reparative services to the local youth with delinquent behavior.

Access Program Students from Rustavi Discuss Environmental Issues | access ge | 31 May 2011


On May 13, the US Consular Officer Andrew Partin lead a session on environment and ecology at the American Corner in Rustavi. The presentation included a documentary film “Human Footprint”, which illustrated the influence humans have on environment. The presentation was followed by a live discussion on environmental issues during which the guest speaker was pleasantly surprised by erudition of Access Program students and by how seriously they took the global problem of ecology and pollution. Students even proposed their own solutions for one of the most serious and vulnerable problems of humanity and underlined the role of the new generation in ensuring a better future for our planet.

ACETT Civics Teacher Training Program Received Accreditation | acett | 31 May 2011

On May 25 civics teacher training course “Teaching Democratic Citizenship” received state accreditation from the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. The course is developed in the framework of the USAID-funded Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International in partnership with the Centre for Training and Consultancy (CTC).

U.S Ambassador to Georgia Mr. John Bass Awards the Access Program Students with Enrollment Certificates | access ge | 9 May 2011


Award of Access Program Enrollment Certificates held in the months of April and May in Rustavi, Ozurgeti, Akhaltsikhe and Gori was one of the important highlights of the second quarter of program implementation and had a tremendous value and importance for increasing the students’ motivation.


Each and every student enrolled in the program was awarded the Access Program enrollment certificates signed by the U.S Ambassador to Georgia Mr. John Bass. In Rustavi and Ozurgeti, Ambassador Bass personally handed the certificates to the students and congratulated them on the enrollment in the program. In Akhaltskhe Mr. Kent Logsdon, Deputy Chief of Mission performed this honorable duty, while in Gori, Mr. Saul Hernandez, Acting Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy greeted the Access Program participants and presented them with the enrollment certificates.
