FLEX Alumni Meet with Gori Access Students | access ge | 30 Sep 2011


On September 30, Access Program in Gori hosted three FLEX program alumni: Lika Okropiridze, Mariam Ghvamichava and Maka Mukhadze. The purpose of the enrichment activity was to increase the motivation of Access Program students to learn English in order to become participants of FLEX-like international exchange programs and return to their communities as the bearers and followers of western democratic values.

US-based Summer Leadership Camp for 72 Armenian, Turkish and American Students | youth lab armenia | 28 Sep 2011


''YouthLAB - Leadership Across Borders'' Program implemented by the Armenian and the US offices of PH International, in partnership with Ari Movement NGO in Turkey, aims to promote a cross-cultural dialogue and leadership skills among Armenian, Turkish and American participant youth. It is also committed to educating them about the ways and mechanisms of introducing significant changes in their own communities.

Since March of 2011, 72 high school students (24 from each country) selected through an open, merit-based recruitment process, within the program actively participate in online discussions about leadership, social entrepreneurship, and peace building in their region.

Throughout July 7-27, 2011 all 72 students got together in Warren, state of Vermont, U.S., where they participated in a 2-week Summer Leadership Camp, after which, for 4 days, the Armenian and Turkish participants were hosted by their American peers' families.

Akhaltsikhe Access Program Students Enjoy a Movie Day | access ge | 19 Sep 2011


On September 19, Access Program in Akhaltsikhe carried out the showing of a film called “Soul Surfer”. Before showing the movie, Access Program English Teacher made a brief presentation on leadership followed by a pre-watching activity during which the teacher discussed the title of the film with the students and provided them with the vocabulary and tips on what to pay attention to while watching the film.

Armenian, Turkish and American Teens Gain Leadership Skills During Vermont Summer Camp | youth lab usa | 5 Aug 2011

High school students from Armenia, Turkey and across New England have recently concluded an intensive three-week summer program at Sugarbush Resort in Warren, Vermont. Throughout July, students in the Youth LAB program were engaged in discussions and trainings on leadership, communication and activism. Importantly, students also designed civic action projects to implement in their home communities following the camp.

Working Meeting with Mediators of Diversion and Mediation Program | glsp | 17 Jul 2011

In 2010, in the framework of the Legal Socialization Program mediators were trained for the Juvenile Diversion and Mediation Program of Ministry of Justice of Georgia. After the training the mediators were able to gain significant experience through 1-year practical work. Subsequently, with the joint effort of Ministry of Justice of Georgia and Legal Socialization Program, the mediators were invited for the working meeting on July 1, 2011, aiming to evaluate the results achieved, share experience and work out recommendations for future work.

The meeting participants included mediators from Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi, social workers of the diversion program, staff of the Legal Socialization Program – Ms. Tinatin Ebanoidze and Ms. Nina Gogoladze, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Georgia – Mr. Andro Gigauri, Ms. Rusudan Mikhelidze and Mr. Tamaz Akhobadze.

In line with the sharing of the experience, the meeting contributed to working out the recommendations for improvements of the Juvenile Diversion and Mediation Program. The meeting participants designed future action plans, including the necessity to define clear criteria for selecting mediators and improving communication between all the parties involved.

On July 12, US Ambassador John Bass and Mrs. Holly Holzer Bass visited student civics camp in Bazaleti. The camp is organized in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and teacher Training Program (ACETT) and brings together 85 students and civics teachers from 9 regions of Georgia.

On June 22 the students of ACETT (Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program) partner schools gathered in Akhaltsikhe to participate in a theatre performance and discussions, dedicated to youth problems. Performance was based on the scenario, developed by students, which helped to clearly demonstrate the most common problems, Georgian youth face nowadays (violence among youth, law violations, gambling).

National Forum of Civics Teachers Established | acett | 30 Jun 2011


On June 24 National Forum of Civics Teachers was established in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT). Presentation was held at the Center for Training and Consultancy (CTC), PH International’s partner in ACETT program.
