On November 11, Access Program in Zugdidi hosted the very first enrichment activity for Access Program students on the topic of Countries and Nationalities. Among the guest speakers were Peter Bohan, PH International’s English Language through Civic Education (ELCE) Program teacher trainer and Robert Eilam, Ministry of Education and Science’s Teach and Learn with Georgia (TLG) Program volunteer.
On October 31, 2012, Ms. Danielle Reiff, the Democracy and Governance Office Director of USAID, and Mrs. Marina Ushveridze, ACETT Program Director, visited Kutaisi public school #17 to attend the school civics club students’ photo exhibition and presentation of activities conducted in the framework of the Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT) implemented by PH International.
On October 29, Access program in Akhaltsikhe held an enhancement activity on the topic of Civic Engagement and Responsibilities. The guests of the event were Guliko Beqauri, Doctor of Psychology, Trainer and Expert in Civic Education and Kelly Gallagher, Peace Corps Volunteer.
On October 26, Access Program in Gori organized an enrichment activity on Olympic and Paralympic Games. Among the guests of the event were Nino Jugheli, English Language Programs Coordinator at the U.S Embassy in Tbilisi and Shalva Shavdatuashvili, Olympic Champion in Judo in the 2012 Olympics.
On October 11, 2012 in cooperation with the Armenian Police and the “Family and Community” NGO in Metsamor, PH International opened the second CJC in Armavir region, with this extending the number of operating CJCs in Armenia to 11.
On August 25-27, within its ZANG Legal Socialization program, the Armenian office of PHI organized a training on victim-offender mediation/restorative conferencing for 30 participants of its 10 Community Justice Centers (CJC), a representative from the Social-Psychological unit of the Ministry of Justice and the psychologist from the Abovyan Penitentiary. Lori Baker, a specialist holding an MA degree on mediation and with years of experience on mediating and managing a Vermont-based CJC herself, was hired from the U.S. to design the training module and facilitate the training in Armenia.
School civics club students from the Kvemo Kartli region had a meeting with local resident Nana Nersezashvili, who was featured in a well-known TV program “Heroes of Imedi” for her altruism and contribution to youth
On October 25, Access Program in Batumi organized an enrichment activity devoted to Georgian and American holidays. The purpose of the activity was to get the students acquainted with major American and Georgian holidays, find out about similarities and differences between the holidays of these two countries and create a calendar of American and Georgian holidays, the students would like to celebrate in the Access class.
On October 20, 2012, a follow-up meeting was held in Telavi with civics teachers trained within the framework of Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program. ACETT is implemented by PH International in Georgia and funded by USAID.
