PH International to Host UK Students in August, 2014 | uk youlead | 6 Dec 2013

PH International will be hosting a group of teens from the U.K. as part of the Young Leaders Program. This US Embassy-funded program will take place from August 2-16, 2014.

Ten up-and-coming young leaders from disadvantaged communities across the U.K. will travel to Vermont, Massachusetts and Washington D.C. to expand their understanding of leadership, create greater awareness of additional models of programs and approaches to promote leadership to fellow youth and to have personal experiences in the U.S. that can offset dangerous misconceptions that can exist among their British peers. Sr. Program Manager, Renee Berrian and Program Manager, Hannah Corey will facilitate this program and connect these U.K. students with numerous rural and metropolitan youth empowerment organizations.

Supreme Court of Georgia hosted the GE CALLS students from Tbilisi | ge calls | 4 Dec 2013


On December 4, the Supreme Court of Georgia hosted the GECALLS students from Tbilisi Public School №55. The students were accompanied by the civic Education Teacher and Law Enforcement Officer of the above mentioned school.

A Supreme Court representative acted as a guide for the guests and introduced them guests the history of the building as well as the high ranking officials that have served there. The students visited nearly all the important chambers of the Supreme Court and tried the seats of judges and other officials. The students also visit the newly opened Museum of Justice.

9th graders visit MIA Police Academy | ge calls | 29 Nov 2013


On November 29, GE CALLS 2013 within the framework of GE Calls project, ninth grade students of 64th public school with teacher and district police officer visited the academy of MIA. At the academy they attended the presentation “education in Academy” where they learned about the process and stages of becoming a police officer. Students also visited classrooms, gyms, shooting range and mock court room and mock customs. The school was personally greeted by the rector of an academy.

Twenty-six students participated in the 2013 GNML Online and Youth TechCamp components of Global New Media Lab. As part of their follow-on work they have created and implemented plans for teachers others back home how to use social media for social change.

Dilijan ACCESS Students Meet U.S. Programs Alumni | access am | 22 Nov 2013


On Nov. 15, 2013, the Central Bank’s Dilijan Center of “Knowledge for Development” hosted the ACCESS program students and their guests from Yerevan: Aleksandr Shagafyan, Project Coordinator of U.S. Alumni Association of Armenia, and Rouben Mirakyan, Fulbright Program Alumnus, the founder of Armenian E-books, who spoke to the students about their career development. Afterwards, Mariam Martirosyan of PHI talked to the students about her professional path and shared with students her ideas about leadership and management. Then the group learnt about popular styles of leadership and discussed which style is best to apply in which situation.

ELCE Program Holds Open Lesson Weeks in Seven Regions of Georgia | elce | 20 Nov 2013


During the months of October and November 2013 participants and graduates of the English Language through Civic Education (ELCE) program across Georgia hosted Open Lesson Weeks. During this event, the average of fifteen teachers in each of the seven regions (Kakheti, Kvemo Kartli, Shida Kartli, Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Ajara) of ELCE program implementation each taught an ELCE-themed lesson and opened their classrooms to observers. Guests at these lessons included not only ELCE teachers, but also other English teachers, teachers of other disciplines, school principals, parents. Over 3150 students have been taught during Open Lesson Weeks and around 750 observers attended these lessons.

Signing of Memorandum of Cooperation between PH International and Armenian Police | am calls | 20 Nov 2013

On November 15, 2013 PH International Armenia Country Director Mariam Martirosyan and Hounan Poghosyan, First Deputy Minister of RA Police, Major General, signed an Agreement to reinforce the cooperative implementation of PHI's Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization Program (AM CALLS) which supports many components of the Child Rights Protection National Plan.

40 representatives of schools from different regions of Georgia ready to start lessons of legal Culture Basics in 7th grades | ge calls | 18 Nov 2013


On November 15-18 four-day workshop was delivered to the selected schools from four regions to train the teachers and school resource officers in the 7th grade legal socialization curriculum (Textbook Basics of Legal Culture) and techniques of team teaching.
Training was led by the leading civil education experts, psychologists and legal experts. They discussed the legislative aspects, importance of the Legal Culture curriculum at schools and conflict resolution methods. The experts also covered the impact of bullying and discrimination, cyberbullying, managing the delinquency at school environment, and about understanding the psychology of teenagers.
