The LEAP Institute participants visited the State Parliament of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Kazan City Duma (Parliament) and met with heads of various committees and members of legislative.

Massachusetts Senate President Pro Tem Stanley Rosenberg joined institute participants in Kazan to participate in a roundtable with them and to deliver an open lecture to Kazan university students about legislative processes in the United States.

12.07.2010 | ccf | From Idea to Business – Inspiring Entrepreneurship in Udmurtia
In 2006, Viktor Lyubimov traveled to Utah for a Community Connections program in Defense Industry Downsizing. The knowledge he gained from the CC exchange inspired a number of small business development ventures in his home community of Izhevsk. In 2008, Lyubimov and Maxim Kozhevnikov, a fellow alumna from Izhevsk, launched the nonprofit League of Enterprise Associations of the Republic of Udmurtia, which Lyubimov heads. Since the League’s founding, several more initiatives were created to boost business growth in the region.
02.07.2010 | ccf | CC Training Leads to Successful Teen-Led Environmental Initiatives
Grigory Matveev, Director of the Kizhinginsk Young Tourists’ Station in the Republic of Buryatia, gained hands-on experience with American environmental protection organizations during the 2009 Building Partnerships in Addressing Environmental Safety Issues program. Matveev then successfully utilized skills acquired through the Community Connections exchange for an initiative to preserve Baikal Lake in Bezymyannaya Bay.

Arushan Vartumyan, Deputy Director of Academic Work at Armavir State Pedagogical University, learned about American anti-corruption practices during the Corruption Awareness, Prevention, and Prosecution program in the autumn of 2009. Skills acquired from the Community Connections program are now being successfully implemented by in the Armavir region.
28.06.2010 | ccf | US Farming Experience Gives Results in Ukraine
Pavlo Troyan, owner and director of Troyany Farm experienced America during a three-week long USAID Community Connections program. His Agriculture group from Poltava region was hosted by the Iowa Council for International Understanding in 2007. As a result, his farm became a regional innovator in new agricultural technologies and highly improved its productivity of crops.
24.06.2010 | ccf | Life Skills Prepare Special Needs Youth for the Future
Community Connections alumna Nakhshun Gareginyan piloted a new initiative in her school to teach basic life skills to special needs students. Since the program’s inception, over 50 students have learned skills they can apply in daily life.
