Training for Newly Enrolled Police Officers and Teachers

On October 13-16, 2011 GLSP conducted 3-day training for law enforcement officers and teachers that enrolled in the program this year. Ten law enforcement officers, fifteen civic education teachers and two school principals from Gori and Samtredia participated in the training. The training was delivered by the GLSP experts and co-authors of the “Legal Culture” Manual Giorgi Gakheladze, Nino Eremashvili, Public Defender’s Office, Maka Peradze, The Head of the Department of International Programs at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Elguja Makalatia, The Head of Analytical Department at the Police Academy of Georgia, Nato Zazashvili, Psychologist, Mediator, Director of NGO “Sapari.”
Participants were introduced to the main topics of juvenile behaviour and restorative justice along with effective teaching methodologies and teamwork tips. The trainers also spoke of the problems and lessons learned throughout the three years of program implementation. Special emphasis was made on the importance of the partnership between the teachers and police officers.
The course of training was very dynamic and included group discussions, brainstorming, role plays and an imitated court session. Upon completion of the training participants expressed their satisfaction with it.
