Professional learning community meetings were held for civics teachers | 23 Jul 2020


Professional learning community meetings were held for civics teachers.

The meetings were focused on challenges, which teachers face during distance learning: how to deal with low motivation of students and make effective and unbiased development assessment. The teachers shared their best practices and experiences of teaching during the distance learning.

Educational expert Simon Janashia made recommendations on how to plan and conduct more effective, interesting and interactive online lessons to promote students' motivation, engagement and achievements. Regional representatives of Civic Education Teachers Forum facilitated the meetings.

Professional learning community meetings were attended by civics teachers from Tbilisi, Kakheti, Guria, Imereti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Adjara, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Mtskheta Mtianeti regions.

Meetings were held in the framework of USAID civic education “Momavlis Taoba” program and organized by Civic Education Teachers Forum.

Training for students on gender equality issues. | 20 Jul 2020


To educate peers about gender equality, an online training was held with the participation of students from MT partner schools in Shida Kartli region. Lela Mindiashvili, a trainer from the partner NGO - Society “Biliki”, led the training. She spoke about gender-related stereotypes, gender-based discrimination and explained how to prevent and respond to them.

The information gained during the training will help students be aware of women's rights, organize information campaigns, prepare presentations and posters to portray the different examples of violence and explain how to prevent and respond to them. They will share the materials via social media to help further awareness of their peers about the preventive measures against gender-based violence.

"Academy of Leaders" | 9 Jul 2020


"Academy of Leaders" - a day camp was held for the students of Momavlis Taoba program partner schools of Adjara region.
Students visited the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. They met with the Chairman of the Supreme Council, Davit Gabaidze, and received information about the activities of the Council. A small excursion was also organized for them in the Supreme Council.
Later a working meeting was held to discuss leadership and youth involvement in solving community problems.
At the end of the meeting, the students planned joint activities and are going to implement them this summer.

To congratulate American people with the USA Independence Day, USAID supported school-based civics clubs students from Kvemo Kartli region prepared a video presentation and posters.
A campaign dedicated to Independence Day increased students’ knowledge about the leading democratic country, the importance of Independence Day and the USA-Georgia partnership.

To promote a healthy lifestyle among the peers, students from Sameba village public school in Kvemo Kartli region mobilized community members and started school stadium rehabilitation activities. Students plan to organize sports games and contribute to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among the youth.

To promote a healthy lifestyle in the community 10th-grade students from Sasireti village public school mobilized community members, local administration and with their cooperation started stadium rehabilitation activities. They cleaned the territory and dug holes to install goalposts.
Students also conducted a contest of essays, posters and drawings and held an online presentation to promote a healthy lifestyle and healthy nutrition among their peers.

Civics Teachers’ Regional "Roundtables" | 18 Jun 2020


During June 8-17, 2020, Civics Teachers’ Regional "Roundtables" for Civics Teachers of Adjara, Kvemo Kartli, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Imereti, Kakheti, Tbilisi, Shida Kartli and Guria regions’ public schools were held in the framework of USAID funded "Momavlis Taoba" program and was organized by the Civic Education Teachers' Forum.

Civics experts Aluda Goglichidze and Nino Chiabrishvili led the roundtables.

Teachers discussed the possible design of civics teaching in high school, students’ projects as a mandatory part of the civics curriculum and other important aspects for further development of school-based civic education.

Following a series of roundtables, MT and Civic Education Teachers Forum (CETF) will share teachers’ recommendations with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.

Students in Guria region decided to learn more about crime among youth | 16 Jun 2020


Students from MT partner schools in Guria region decided to learn more about crime among youth because it became a critical concern in the region.
To promote crime prevention and educate peers about negative consequences youth conflict may lead to, students surveyed the attitude of their peers about the juvenile crime to find out the main causes of crime and how juvenile crime can be prevented.
Students also participated in an online meeting with a psychologist Tamta Dolidze and discussed human personality types and behavioral criminology.
In addition, students planned to participate in an online discussion with a lawyer to talk about crime prevention among youth and learn about organizations that work in the field of juvenile crime prevention.

Facebook Live with Tamaz Daushvili, CEO and Partner of DIO Ltd | 8 Jun 2020


Tamaz Daushvili, CEO and Partner of DIO Ltd, had a Facebook live with students, teachers and parents via MT’s Facebook page.

During an hour live meeting, the speaker talked about the history, development and corporate social responsibility of the company DIO, shared the tips for starting a new business and answered the questions of viewers about leadership, team building and business development.

What are corporate social responsibility initiatives implemented by DIO Ltd? How does your company support the communities? What is the difference between a manager and a leader? Is leadership an inborn quality or can one grow as a leader? What skills does one need to develop to become successful in business? How did you start your business? How did COVID-19 affect your company? Is it hard to be a leader? What is your advice to future entrepreneurs? What do young people need to start a business? Does Media support a business? -These among others were the questions that Tamaz Daushvili discussed with the students during the online meeting.

Participants of the meeting - students, civics teachers and parents from all regions of Georgia had the opportunities to ask questions to Tamaz Daushvili, via Facebook. The online conference had 148 comments and questions from students and teachers and 3,000 views by the time it ended.

Such events are very helpful for students, teachers and community members and contribute to spreading information about starting a new business and about leadership, team building and business development.

Online Model Lessons | 2 Jun 2020


In May, civics teachers of Momavlis Taoba program’s partner schools conducted online model lessons by the use of the Microsoft Teams program in 8 regions of Georgia – Tbilisi, Imereti, Guria, Samegrelo, Kakheti, Shida Kartli, Kvemo Kartli, and Adjara. Model lessons covered various topics from MT’s civics supplemental textbooks and used various techniques of distance learning.
