Students support peers with special needs

Georgia | Momavlis Taoba - Civic Education Program | 26 Sep 2016

Students of Ivane Javakhishvili School of Borjomi initiated a project aimed to integrate their peers with special needs into society and involve them in decision making process. The project started with training on inclusion of children with special needs. Borjomi School Students and their peers with special needs - beneficiaries of local NGO “Together towards Changes” - attended a meeting in Borjomi Sakrebulo (local Government office) to observe discussions and decision making process. Borjomi Municipality funded students’ visit to Kutaisi to observe the meeting at the Parliament of Georgia.

Later Borjomi Sakrebulo Chairman met with students and discussed with them the problems, critical for local youth. After this meeting, the parties agreed that students from Ivane Javakhishvili Private School and beneficiaries of NGO “Together towards Changes” will have internships at the local municipality.

The project was supported by Borjomi local TV and newspaper.

Support, received from the local TV and newspaper is especially important when schools have to work with new donors and supporters. Such new projects helped students, teachers and school administration officials to refine their skills in communicating important issues to local government and other decision-makers.
