International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in Gori

Georgia | Momavlis Taoba - Civic Education Program | 18 Dec 2014

Students from partner schools of the “Momavlis Taoba” program, psychologists, lawyers, social workers and representatives of the non-governmental organizations gathered in Gori to find answers to the questions - What causes violence against women? How does the law protect women? What is the statistics? And, How can we solve the problem?

Meeting was dedicated to International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Participants of the event talked about the recent facts of the violence against women and its causes, discussed issues of gender equality and women's rights.

Students and other participants of the meeting concluded that very often problems are caused by the lack of education. As people don’t know their rights, it is important to educate students as early as possible, and raise public awareness about domestic violence and gender equality.

The discussion was facilitated by the “Biliki Society” in the framework of the Momavlis Taoba program, which is implemented by PH International in Georgia.
