ACETT Civics Club Students Meet the Needs of IDP Communities

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 1 Nov 2011

School civics club students of USAID’s Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT) in Shida Kartli assessed the needs of IDP communities in the village of Khurvaleti. The identified needs were an absence of a library and absence of a windbreak tree line in the settlement. The students communicated the community’s identified needs to the local municipality, NGOs, schools, libraries, and publishing houses in Shida Kartli. As a result of this collaboration, a library was established in Khurvaleti settlement. Following the meeting with Gori Municipality and after students’ advocacy efforts, the municipality allocated 100 Lombardy poplar trees to create a windbreak tree line for the village. ACETT school civics club students, local government representatives and community members planted the windbreak tree line in Khurvaleti on October 16. The event was coordinated with PH International’s partner NGO in Shida Kartli region, Biliki Society.
