ACETT Civics Teacher Training Program Received Accreditation

Georgia | Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training (ACETT) program for Georgia | 31 May 2011

On May 25 civics teacher training course “Teaching Democratic Citizenship” received state accreditation from the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. The course is developed in the framework of the USAID-funded Applied Civic Education and Teacher Training Program (ACETT), which is implemented by PH International in partnership with the Centre for Training and Consultancy (CTC). The course is comprised of a 50 training program, which will help teachers to develop skills in modern participatory teaching techniques, to ensure teachers know how to effectively use textbooks and supplemental materials to achieve learning goals formalized in the official curriculum, and to promote incorporation of applied learning as part of the teaching process. The program qualifies for two credits, which provides additional incentives for teachers to participate. The program went through different stages of development before it was submitted for accreditation. A test run of the teacher training course was delivered by CTC with a group of school civics teachers in January. The observations and feedback provided by test-run participants was invaluable for finalizing the teacher training course. Training of Civic Education Teacher Trainers (ToT) was also conducted at CTC in late January. The training was instrumental in preparing teacher trainers for upcoming trainings in many regions of Georgia. ACETT will launch series of civics teacher training sessions from June, which will cover 500 teachers from 9 regions of Georgia.
