Fort Ross 2.0

"Project Harmony, Inc." (PH International) with the support of the U.S. Embassy in the Russian Federation is conducting the "Fort Ross 2.0” Contest.

The Contest will highlight the cultural and educational ties between Russia and the United States exemplified by Fort Ross, a historic Russian settlement on the west coast of the United States. Located in northern California, Fort Ross is a crossroads of culture, bringing together Russian, American, Spanish, and Native American history. This settlement bears witness to the birth of the relationship between the United States and Russia and is of special significance for both countries.

We invite teams to create a Fort Ross themed quest hereafter referred to as “Quest”.  Teams should consist of three high school students (grades 8-10).  They should use the following topic as a starting point:

“In the summer of 2015 Russian students and teachers visited Fort Ross. What secrets did the Fort reveal to them?”  

The two winning teams will travel to the United States in July 2016 and participate in the annual Fort Ross Festival.

The Contest will be held October 20, 2015 through July 31, 2016 and consists of several stages:

  • Contest announcement - October 20, 2015
  • Acceptance of entries: October 21, 2015 - December 20, 2015
  • Review of submitted proposals, absentee selection of  semifinalists: January 1 - 25, 2016
  • Skype interview with the semi-finalists: February 1-15, 2016
  • Winning teams announcement: February 25, 2016
  • Winning teams travel to the United States: July 2016

Participation in the contest is free of charge.

The Quest can be created in any form (including, but not limited to, mobile application, website, interactive presentation, etc.). The quest should be created in online format, and the application should include a link to the resource.

Requirements:

- All Quests should be dedicated to Fort Ross (CA); the Quest shall be based on accurate information about the Fort and its history;

- All team members must be proficient in English.

- The Quest shall be developed in two languages ​​(Russian and English).

- Winners of the 2014-2015 Fort Ross Quest contest are not eligible to participate in Fort Ross 2.0 competition.

To apply, the team should fill out the online application form consisting of three parts:

1. The link to the online quest.

2. A video promoting the quest meeting the following criteria:

-T he video should introduce the team and the quest;

- Maximum three minutes

- All team members should participate in the video, and explain their role in creating the quest.

- The video should be in English.

- The video should be uploaded on YouTube.

3. Filled-out online application  (To submit the application, please register or log in using your Facebook, VK or Google+ accounts.)

The deadline for submitting complete applications for the Fort Ross 2.0 contest is December 20, 2015.
