Incredible, world-changing software innovations often come from students. The Russia-wide Master of Code contest for youth that was carried out by Microsoft Rus in collaboration with the Tvoy Kurs: IT for Youth project in March 2015 helped to reveal the next student tech genius!
Ilya Dementiev, a 15 year-old secondary school student from Almetyevsk won the Grand Prix and got the opportunity to visit the Imagine Cup 2015 World Finals at the Microsoft Global Headquarters in Redmond.
The Master of Code contest participants from 12 to 18 years of age were tasked to create their own mobile applications, games, and websites using new online Web Matrix and Windows App Studio tools. Ilya’s Protecty.me project that protects a user’s account from hackers’ attacks was the best in the Websites contest’s category.
“When I was younger, my mom didn’t allow me to use the Internet as she was concerned about online dangers, - remembers Ilya, “maybe it somehow pushed me to create a project connected to online safety.”
The competition was tense with 600 participants from all over Russia, but it only inspired Ilya to work harder to be the best developer he could be. Ilya’s victory was not by chance. The young boy worked hard to bring his idea to life and it made him happy, yet the honor of meeting real guru of IT-industry, meeting finalists from various countries, and cheering for the Russian team during the Imagine Cup World Finals was beyond his expectations.
“The participation and my victory in the competition gave me strength and inspiration to strive for new achievements and create super projects that will change the lives of people for better!”
