Training on Community Dialogues and Youth Opportunity Planning – PH Armenia

Armenia | Armenia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization | 26 Oct 2013

Within the Armenia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization (AM CALLS) program, throughout October 19-22 three trainees from Vanadzor, Gyumri and Yerevan together with a group of 5 Armenian, Georgian and U.S. staff working for the Armenian and Georgian Legal Socialization Reform Programs, participated in a Training on Community Dialogues and Youth Opportunity Planning led by Diana Wahle, Collaboration and Planning Consultant from Vermont.

The three day training focused exposed the participants to the theoretical as well as the practical aspects of community’s role in empowering youth. The sessions introduced to the trainees the World café format of public dialogues, community assets mapping, the spectrum of attitudes towards youth, youth opportunity planning exercises and community dialogue design activities. The participants learned the theory of the Four Quadrants of Human Service Activity which underpins a balanced personal and community approach to problem solving and policy development.

This training prepared the PH staff and the 3 facilitators for the pilot community dialogues which were conducted throughout October 22-26, 2013 in four Armenian communities: Gyumri, Vanadzor, Metsamor and Echmiadzin. Utilizing the new knowledge and skills transferred to the trainees by the experienced facilitator, the participants tailored their own community dialogue format and applied it during the dialogue in one of the above-mentioned towns where they were assigned to serve as the lead facilitator. The training was very productive as it allowed the trainees to express their feedback and share their previous experience of previous public dialogues, based on which the training material got adjusted to better suit the needs of the Armenian communities selected for the pilot dialogues.
