Four Armenian Towns Host Community Dialogues on Local Youth Issues

Armenia | Armenia Community Action and Linkages for Legal Socialization | 26 Oct 2013

Throughout October 22-26, within the AM CALLS program, 4 towns of Armenia, namely Gyumri, Vanadzor, Metsamor and Echmiadzin, hosted World Café format based Community Dialogues to explore problems concerning local youth, especially those living in difficult conditions, and to come up with citizen action plans to solve those problems.

In each of the towns, a most diverse group of about 25 participants, young and old, male and female, employed and unemployed, people from all walks of life, were invited to join their fellow citizens for parallel discussions around 5-6 tables. They had a unique opportunity to exchange their opinions on existing opportunities for youth development from many different perspectives, to voice their concerns, and to brainstorm Community Action Plans (CAP) for the solutions of most urgent 3 problems commonly expressed by different tables. Trained facilitators served as table hosts and assisted the discussion process around each table.

At the end of each dialogue, the participants were asked to complete cards on which they offered their contribution for the follow-up community processes. This inventory of individual resources and skills will help each community to better organize the next stage of their citizen engagement campaign, allowing each community group to refine the draft CAPs agreed during the limited timeframe of the community dialogues.

PH is providing a small grant of up to 1,600,000 AMD as financial support to the CAP of each of the 4 sites. The NGOs that participated in the community dialogues and are willing to operate as their community leader and coordinator, can apply to this grant opportunity with a project built upon the ideas expressed during the community dialogues. Each CAP project should have an Advisory Group from the community members of the dialogue.

To support potential NGO applicants with information needed for the final design of the CAP application, PH collected, summarized and sent back to each community group the identified CAP themes, the names of the community dialogue participants and the assets they offered for the CAPs.

The deadline for small grant applications for all 4 communities is Nov. 15, 2013. NGOs interested in applying to this Small Grants opportunity can find the package of application documents in the AM CALLS program website.
